Uses of the Lucentis 10mg Injection

Here are the primary conditions Lucentis is used to treat:

Wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD): This is the most common use for Lucentis. It helps to prevent vision loss caused by abnormal blood vessels growing under the retina.

Macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO): This condition occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the eye, causing swelling in the macula. Lucentis can help reduce this swelling.

Diabetic macular edema (DME): In people with diabetes, blood vessels can leak fluid into the macula, causing swelling. Lucentis can help manage this condition.

Diabetic retinopathy: This is a complication of diabetes that affects the blood vessels in the retina. Lucentis can be used to treat certain types of diabetic retinopathy.

Myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV): This condition occurs in people with severe nearsightedness and involves abnormal blood vessel growth.

Important Note: Lucentis is a prescription medication, and it’s essential to use it under the guidance of an ophthalmologist.

HR-positive (hormone receptor-positive) breast cancer: This means the cancer’s growth is stimulated by hormones like estrogen or progesterone.

HER2-negative breast cancer: This means the cancer cells don’t have abnormally high levels of a protein called HER2.

How Does Lucentis 10mg Injection Work?

VEGF: This is a protein that stimulates the growth of new blood vessels.

Abnormal Blood Vessels: In certain eye conditions like wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and others, abnormal blood vessels grow under the retina. These vessels can leak fluid and blood, causing vision loss.

Lucentis: This medication works by blocking VEGF. By inhibiting VEGF, Lucentis prevents the growth of these abnormal blood vessels and reduces leakage, helping to preserve vision

How Should You Take Lucentis 10mg Injection?

Lucentis is administered as an injection directly into your eye by an ophthalmologist. It’s not a medication you can self-inject.

Preparation: Your eye will be numbed with eye drops before the injection.

Injection: A tiny needle is used to inject Lucentis into the vitreous humor, the gel-like substance that fills the inside of your eye.

Post-injection: Your eye will be monitored for a short time after the injection. The frequency of injections depends on the specific eye condition being treated and its severity. Your ophthalmologist will determine the best treatment plan for you.

0.5 mg (0.05 mL) injected into the eye once a month for conditions like wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and macular edema following retinal vein occlusion.

0.3 mg (0.03 mL) injected into the eye once a month for diabetic macular edema.
