The Forsteo Injection Prefilled Pen is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, men at high risk of fractures, and people with osteoporosis caused by long-term corticosteroid use. It contains teriparatide (20 micrograms per dose), a synthetic form of parathyroid hormone that helps your body build new bone and increase bone mineral density.
You may be prescribed Forsteo if:
You’ve already had fractures due to weak bones.
Other osteoporosis medications haven’t worked for you or aren’t suitable.
You’re at high risk of future fractures due to very low bone density.
How Does Forsteo 20mcg Injection Work?
Forsteo 20mcg Injection contains teriparatide, a man-made form of parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-34), which plays a key role in regulating calcium and bone metabolism in your body. Unlike most osteoporosis treatments that slow down bone loss, Forsteo actively helps build new bone.

Warnings and Precautions of Forsteo 20mcg Injection
Osteosarcoma Risk: Forsteo (teriparatide) can very rarely trigger a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. You should not use it if you have conditions that raise this risk such as Paget’s disease, open growth plates, a history of bone tumors or radiation to the skeleton, or certain hereditary bone disorders. Doctors also avoid it in anyone with active bone metastases.
Hypercalcemia & Cutaneous Calcification: The medicine raises blood-calcium levels for several hours after each dose. Skip or stop treatment if you already have high calcium or if routine blood tests show it creeping up. Very rarely, calcification of skin or small blood vessels (calciphylaxis) has been reported; if skin ulcers or painful plaques appear, call your doctor right away.
Kidney-Stone (Urolithiasis) Precaution: If you currently have or recently had kidney stones, your prescriber will weigh risks and benefits because higher urine calcium after an injection could worsen stone formation. They may check a urine-calcium test before continuing therapy.
