Uses of the Arimidex 1mg Tablets

Treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Used as adjuvant therapy (after surgery) for early breast cancer to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.

First-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic hormone receptor-positive or unknown breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease has progressed following tamoxifen therapy.

Sometimes used as a preventative treatment in postmenopausal women at moderate or high risk of developing breast cancer.

You’re at high risk of future fractures due to very low bone density.

How Does Arimidex 1mg Tablets Work?

Arimidex 1mg tablets (anastrozole) work by selectively and competitively inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for converting androgens into estrogens in peripheral tissues such as the adrenal glands, liver, and fat.

By blocking aromatase, Arimidex significantly reduces estrogen production, leading to an approximate 85% decrease in estradiol levels in postmenopausal women. This reduction in estrogen slows or stops the growth of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer cells that depend on estrogen to grow.

How Should You Take Arimidex 1mg Tablets?

To take Arimidex 1mg tablets properly:

Dosage: Take one 1mg tablet once daily.

Timing: Try to take it at the same time every day to maintain consistent medication levels.

With food: You can take Arimidex with or without food.

How to take: Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush, or split it.

Duration: Continue taking Arimidex for as long as your doctor prescribes, which may be several years depending on your treatment plan.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if it’s more than 12 hours before your next dose. If less than 12 hours remain, skip the missed dose and do not double up.

Do not stop: Do not stop taking Arimidex unless your doctor advises you to do so.

The recommended dosage for Arimidex 1mg tablets is one 1 mg tablet taken once daily. The tablet should be taken orally, once a day. It can be taken with or without food. For patients with advanced breast cancer, Arimidex should be continued until the tumor progresses.
